How did she get started?

Ever since she was little, Meredith has had a passion for painting. She went to Wheaton College and graduated with a degree in Oil Painting. She interned with an interior design firm and after two months realized it wasn't for her. Meredith packed up her things and moved to Nantucket where she pursued a full-time career as an artist. Currently, Meredith   is a private art instructor and works with a variety of businesses creating art for their products from surfboards to coffee mugs and everything in between.

Who was her mentor?

Meredith's mentor is her mother, Janet Hanson.  Janet is a great entrepreneur who had her own successful career in finance. Her "Mom-ager" is her biggest supporter, providing inspiration, sound business advice and guidance.

What challenges did she face?

When Meredith was first starting off, she had a hard time breaking into art world. She was rejected from many galleries and as a result opened her own. Later on in her career, Meredith had an arm injury which forced her to try out new painting styles. As a result, she now mostly works with watercolors, a style she is still experimenting with.

What is her advice for other women and girls?

Meredith's advice is to be open to listening to other people, whether they are older or younger. She says it is important to be kind, follow your passion and be true to your inner business women. Meredith also believes collaboration is important and encourages finding partners and friends to work with because no one can do it all alone.
