How did she get started?
Lauren first started her photography career by taking pictures of her husband surfing and posting them on instagram. Someone, who saw Lauren's pictures on instagram, asked to buy a photo from her. As others approached her about buying her work, her business took off from there.
What is her educational background?
Lauren went to NYU and studied business and economics. She contemplated going to Law School, but wanted to test out the legal field by being a paralegal first.
What challenges did she face?
For Lauren, the creativity and business side come naturally, but the logistics are a huge obstacle. Getting bogged down in the details of running a business can sometimes get in the way of creativity. Because she lives on an island, finding venders that she trusted to frame and ship her work. It was difficult to let go and trust the vendors to deliver the end product.
What is her advice for other women and girls?
Lauren's business advice is to learn and master the business side first. Make sure you know how to set up a business and keep it safe with the help of a good accountant and lawyer. In addition, she believes that everyone should cultivate a team of people who have your back, who inspire you, support you believe in you.
